The St. Thomas women’s basketball team jumped out to a 44-33 lead over rival St. Ben’s at Schoenecker Arena behind 15 points from junior forward Hannah Spaulding.
The Tommies put on an offensive clinic in the first quarter opening up a 33-10 lead. The Blazers responded with 23 points in the second quarter to cut the deficit in half.
Senior forward Lauren Fischer drained two treys and grabbed two rebounds for the Tommies.
Coach Ruth Sinn said the team needed to focus on defending the three point line better. The Blazers scored 12 of their 23 points from the three point line in the second quarter.
The Tommies are looking for their 52 consecutive MIAC win.
