Wide receiver Gabe Green hauled in two touchdowns and 73 yards on three receptions Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium as St. Thomas shot out to a commanding 22-0 halftime lead over Berry College.
Green’s season-best halftime performance was aided by a solid run game led by running back Tucker Trettel. Trettel gained 60 yards on 13 carries, and running back Josh Parks was able to punch in the Tommies’ final touchdown of the half on a 2-yard toss play with 12:02 left in the second.
The Tommie defense held the Vikings to 93 yards of total offense and yielded only two first downs throughout the entire first half. Berry had seven drives end in a three-and-out and two with turnovers on downs.
Berry’s best chance to score came in the final minute of the half. The Tommies were able to hold the Vikings on the 5-yard line to keep the shutout intact.
Saturday was the sixth time the Tommies held a shutout going into the half. In those five games, St. Thomas was able to hold four opposing teams scoreless through the remainder of the contest.
