First-place Tommie baseball sweeps Wisconsin-LaCrosse

The first-ranked St. Thomas baseball team improved to 4-1 in its young season with a 10-3 and 3-2 sweep of Wisconsin-LaCrosse Thursday evening.

The Tommies got game two’s winning hit from senior Matt Olson with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh for the winning run in the Metrodome. Olson went 3-3 at the plate in support of sophomore Bryce Gapinski, who was on the mound for St. Thomas.

St. Thomas jumped out to an early lead in game one and never gave it back, leading at 3-0, 7-2 and the winning score of 10-3. Junior Kris Edwards worked five innings for the Tommies and surrendered three runs before sophomore John Licht closed out the game in relief.

St. Thomas will be in action Saturday evening at the Metrodome against Carthage College.
