Friday is the final day for students to vote for the Undergraduate Student Government 2013-2014 council. The winners will be announced this weekend.
Executive Vice President Jenna Johnson and Student Diversity Chair Luis Ortega are both running for the president’s position. Both have different campaign strategies and initiatives they’d like to implement.
Ortega said USG’s agenda consists of health and wellness, sustainability and Tommie pride. However, if elected, Ortega said he would advocate for other issues as well.
“I’d have to be an advocate for a number of issues, not just limited to those three initiatives that we try to concentrate on and put most of our efforts on throughout the year,” Ortega said.
Johnson has a different issue on her agenda.
“I also would like more healthy food options, such as vegan options and vegetarian options and more fruit options in the cafeteria,” Johnson said. “I’ve also been working on getting a farmers market on campus.”
Director of Campus Life Margaret Cahill said a successful candidate uses advertising and people skills to gain a competitive edge in campaigning.
“I think getting your name out there, getting your face out there and talking to folks, doing the posters and just getting out there and talking about why you would do the best job representing students,” Cahill said.
