Rep. Betty McCollum, DFL-St.Paul, has been elected to her 10th term in Minnesota’s Fourth District seat, defeating Republican Greg Ryan in the 2018 midterm election.
The Associated Press called the race for McCollum at 9:19 p.m. with just under a quarter of the votes in and McCollum leading with 68 percent.
The two also squared off in the 2016 election with McCollum taking 58 percent of the vote.
McCollum, who represents the residents of Ramsey County and most of Washington County, was first elected to Congress in 2000, becoming only the second woman to represent Minnesota since statehood in 1858.
McCollum serves on the House Appropriations Committee and supported the Affordable Care Act. Her biography says she is an advocate for excellence in education, health care, environmental protection and transportation investment.
Prior to Congress, McCollum served in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1993-2000 and was elected assistant party leader three times by her DFL colleagues. She also served on the North St. Paul City Council from 1987-1992.
McCollum is a Minnesota native who grew up in South St. Paul and currently lives in St. Paul.
Democrat Ilhan Omar was elected to the U.S. House, District 5, according to the Associated Press at 8:33 p.m.
Democrat Dean Phillips was elected to the U.S. House, District 3, according to the Associated Press at 8:57 p.m.
Democrat Angie Craig was elected to the U.S. House, District 2, according to the Associated Press at 11 p.m.
