Scooter’s reduces original menu, more changes expected next fall

Senior Karin Norby said she always ordered a panini for lunch at the old Scooters’ and was “sad” when the item did not make the cut at the new Scooter’s.

Gayle Lamb, Dining Services cash operations manager, said the decision to reduce the menu happened shortly after the grand opening of the Anderson Student Center.

“After the burn-out of that first week, we really stepped aside and rethought about how this is really doable,” she said.

Lamb said three other big problems surfaced during Scooter’s first week in the new building that affected the menu: the old television numbering system could not be duplicated, traffic patterns were not anticipated correctly and the new kitchen was not ready to deal with the original menu.

However, Lamb said Scooter’s menu will grow when specials are added to the new menu.

Junior Jillian Wayland said she likes the new menu and sees no need to have it be the same as before.

“The new Scooter’s offers a lot more healthier choices than the old one ever did, which to me is a huge improvement,” Wayland said.

Other recent changes at Scooter’s include hot sandwiches that are prepared daily for the Summit Marketplace’s grab-and-go area, and biodegradable paper plates are temporarily being used because of the lack of a built-in tray area.

Gayle said students can expect even more changes to come in the fall.

“We are going to continue to revamp and redesign the menu this summer looking at recent industry trends,” Lamb said. “We have some exciting plans in store for students coming up next year.”

Gayle would not disclose any ideas about the menu, but said students can expect to use credit cards in all dining areas in ASC and more events are scheduled, such as Thursday Night Live, to use the new Scooters stage next fall.
