The St. Thomas women’s soccer team dominated throughout their 6-0 win against St. Olaf Saturday at South Field.
This is the most goals St. Thomas (2-1 MIAC, 5-2 overall) has scored this year, and its fourth shutout posted.
“Our focus today was attacking in-line because we have a lot of runners that get in the box,” forward Kayle Roberts said.
Four of the six goals were created from a cross into the box, with six different players scoring for St. Thomas
The first goal by forward Tessa Tretel came in the sixth minute off a pass from midfielder Kate Heimer.
Ole forward Mackenzie Schoustra provided the only early spark for St. Olaf with a few solid shots in the first half.
The Tommies took control in the 29th minute as midfielder Lexi Serreyn put one in the back of the net assisted by Roberts.
Roberts capped off an impressive first half for St. Thomas scoring outside the box on an assist by midfielder Kristen Epperly.
“We had a fire in us today,” Serreyn said. “Augsburg was our first loss in conference so we were all ready to move on to this game today.”
This fire carried into the second half as a low cross got through the defense toElizabeth Luotto at the back post.
A loose ball off a corner kick led to a fifth St. Thomas goal.
The sixth goal came from Heimer in the 64th minute.
“Our defense has always been so phenomenal but we had been missing our attacking third intensity so it was nice to get our attack back into place today,” Serreyn said.
St. Thomas hopes to keep this aggressive scoring attack going Wednesday, Oct. 5 when they host Wartburg at 4 p.m.
