MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. — The St. Thomas women’s hockey team tied its first home game in overtime 2-2 against the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Friday at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

The Tommies’ (0-1-1) first goal came from junior forward Estee Frantz within the first minute of the second period, her first of the season. Frantz’s goal was assisted by first-year forward/defender Alli Monrean, making it the first assist of her college career.

“It was just really exciting knowing it was my first college assist, and Estee (Frantz) was able to put it in and score it,” Monrean said.

Coach Tom Palkowski spoke positively of Monrean.

“Alli (Monrean) is quite frankly one of our better players as a freshman,” Palkowski said. “She stepped in, she understands the game, she plays at a high pace…so we’re excited about her future.”

The Pointers (3-0-1) responded ten minutes later with a goal by sophomore forward Mary Kremer, assisted by sophomore defender Nicole Neuberger and first-year forward Gina Magro.

Ten minutes into the third period, the Tommies scored again with a goal by junior forward Maddy Fiedler, assisted by junior forward Alyssa Wallace.

The Pointers came back with a goal by sophomore defender Nicole Neuberger, assisted by senior forward Alex Grubbs.

The Tommies outshot the Pointers with 47 shots on goal over 18.

“I think we just need to attack the net and hopefully get a few more bounces,” Palkowski said. “We’ve given up four goals this year and all four have been costly mistakes.”

The Tommies face the Pointers for a rematch 2 p.m. Saturday at home.
