In the first game of a doubleheader, St. Thomas got their first conference loss 9-2 against Macalester in a seven-inning game at Koch Diamond Wednesday.
Tommie junior infielder Dan Bollingberg scored in the first inning with an RBI single by sophomore catcher Adam Krajewski with the bases loaded. The Tommies (10-4 overall, 2-1 MIAC) scored two more runs in the seventh inning, once by sophomore outfielder Avery Lehman in an RBI by Bollingberg, and again by junior infielder Chandler Schaefbauer in an sacrifice fly by Ryan Lust.
Sophomore pitcher Andrew Tri allowed the Scots (8-6 overall, 2-1 MIAC) four runs, all in the second inning before being pulled for junior Nathan Sprouls. Sprouls allowed the Scots two more runs in the second, along with a run in the fourth inning.
The Scots made two more runs in the sixth inning, once on a wild pitch by pitcher Grant Gunderson and another in an double RBI.
The Tommies recorded four hits in the game, while the Scots put in 13. Sophomore third baseman Kyle Halverson continued his 14 game hitting streak, being the only Tommie to have hit at least once in every game so far this season.
The Tommies face the Scots once again in a nine-inning game at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday.
