Campus Ministry began hosting weekly Frisbee Friends games this semester on the St. Thomas South Field as a way to encourage fellowship and community building between students.

Peer ministers Alex Krajec and Rachael Mysnyk formed Frisbee Friends this fall. The event attracts 10 to 12 people per week, and organizers said more participants are welcome.

Alex Krajec said being active with others is a great way to establish a sense of community among students.

“We’ve noticed a lot of groups on campus that like to play Ultimate Frisbee,” Krajec said. “We thought that it would be a great idea to invite people from all different communities to come and play together, so that way we can share fellowship.”

For students to build a relationship with others, Mysnyk said they have to be engaged and active with those around them.

“If you want people to actually be in relation with each other, you have to do something with one another. We can’t just get them in a room and expect to build a relationship,” said Mysnyk.

Senior Aaron Monson, who is a regular participant, said Frisbee Friends brings students who share a common interest together.

“It is a great way to meet people that like the same things as you,” said Monson. “Otherwise you would not be seeing them.”

Mysnyk said she hopes the games will allow students from diverse backgrounds and groups to interact and get to know one another.

Students can learn more about Frisbee Friends through Campus Ministry emails and its Facebook page. The next event will take place Sunday, Nov. 9 at 4 p.m.
