Women’s basketball takes MIAC lead after Carleton win
Sarah Smith’s game-high 17 points carried the St. Thomas women’s basketball team over Carleton 79-57 at home Wednesday night and into sole possession of the MIAC lead.
Women’s hockey loses to River Falls 5-2
An open-net goal capped a 5-2 Wisconsin-River Falls victory, as the St. Thomas women’s hockey team (9-8-2 overall) fell to the No. 2 Falcons Wednesday evening at home.
The Tommies got things going first, scoring two first-period goals, but could not keep the Falcons in check defensively.

Chasing a dream: Senior linebacker trains for NFL tryout
Senior linebacker Tommy Becker is preparing to try out for the National Football League.
Becker has trained for five weeks at Englebert Training Systems Gym in Woodbury, Minn., in preparation for a pro day March 9 at Concordia University in St. Paul with other D-III athletes.
Women’s tennis beats Southwest State 9-0 in first home match
The St. Thomas women’s tennis team opened its season with a 9-0 victory over Southwest Minnesota State University. The match at the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex was the team’s first home appearance in two years.
Women’s hockey loses share of MIAC lead in St. Olaf loss
St. Olaf’s Alex Meyer broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period, lifting the Oles past St. Thomas 2-1 Saturday afternoon at home.
St. Thomas was tied with Gustavus for the conference lead heading into the game, and the Tommies were looking to take two in a row from St. Olaf after defeating the Oles 5-2 Friday night. But the Oles kept their playoff hopes alive.
Women’s basketball gets revenge in 61-50 win over St. Kate’s
Surviving St. Kate’s strong second-half effort, the St. Thomas women’s basketball team escaped with a 61-50 win Saturday at home; an important win as the MIAC playoffs approach.
The Tommies were prepared for an aggressive game against St. Kate’s and were motivated to win after losing 73-68 to the Wildcats Jan. 15.
