Men’s basketball defeats C-M-S in OT, advances to second round

The St. Thomas men’s basketball team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 76-74 in overtime  in the first round of the NCAA tournament Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Friday will be a big day for St. Thomas basketball teams. Both the men and women will open NCAA Division III tournament play, with the women’s team playing at home and the men on the road.

Junior guard Will DeBerg and freshman center Conner Nord each scored 18 points as the Tommies defeated Bethel 74-64 in Friday night’s MIAC semifinal game at home. St. Thomas will host second-seeded Gustavus at 2 p.m. Sunday in the MIAC title game.
