Veterans Day vigil honors all who served
Starting 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, and continuing for 24 consecutive hours, ROTC cadets slowly marched past the flagpole to remember the veterans who served and suffered for their country.

Social host ordinance starts Dec. 12, not this weekend
The social host ordinance that was expected to go into effect Nov. 13 was actually supposed to be set for Dec. 12.
City clerk Shari Moore said that the way an ordinance works is that it goes into effect, “30 days after approval and publication.”

Solar panels to top Brady Hall Dec. 19
Twenty solar panels will be installed on the edge of the Brady Hall roof while students are away for winter break.
A student group has been working for months to get the panels installed on the roof of a St. Thomas building. Contractors from Innovative Power Systems, who will install the panels, made the final decision to put the panels on Brady Hall.
Hour of Power swims against sarcoma
Sporting “Cancer Sucks” swim caps, students from all of the local MIAC schools swam at Macalester’s Riely Pool Wednesday for the annual “Hour of Power,” an event that raises money for sarcoma research.
Big Five: STAR budget breakdown
Some students may think their student activity fee just goes toward a T-shirt every once in a while, but that money is actually divided between the Undergraduate Student Government and St. Thomas Activities and Recreation (STAR) to do more than just provide T-shirts.
Brady Narloch, USG vice president of financial affairs, said STAR typically receives 60 percent of activity fee so the staff can do programming.

Opus Construction will analyze Brady Hall and decide how to fix a structural “bulge” in the building’s exterior.

Lichtfuss, Neugebauer win Fowler Challenge, pocket 10K
The winners of the Fowler Business Concept Challenge were announced Oct. 30 and seniors Matthew Lichtfuss and Zach Neugebauer took home the $10,000 first prize.
For the Fowler Business Concept Challenge, students developed a business concept and presented the concept to a panel of judges. The competition was divided between undergraduate and graduate students.
Harry Potter, students charm library’s 50th birthday
The library’s “Harry Potter Room” on the second floor was filled with Hogwarts-themed treats, trivia and a showing of the “Sorcerer’s Stone” Tuesday night.
Woman charged in college lockdown hoax
A false report of a gunman at Saint Paul College that resulted in a campus lockdown and a building evacuation has resulted in charges.
On Sept. 23, TommieMedia reported an alleged gunman was on the St. Paul College campus. City Attorney John Choi charged 42-year-old Charleeta Brown with falsely reporting a crime. Choi says the woman’s actions are “akin to yelling fire in a crowded theater.”
