Erica Nord’s 17 points were too much for the St. Thomas women’s basketball team as it lost the MIAC playoff championship game to Concordia-Moorhead 71-61 Saturday at home.
The loss hit hard after an exhilarating 50-48 win against Gustavus Thursday night. Coach Ruth Sinn said being on defense for a majority of the game made it difficult to get back on track.

Some students resorting to sleeping pills
Like other young adults across the country, some St. Thomas students are resorting to using sleeping pills at night. Use of sleep aids among 18- to 24-year-olds tripled between 1998 and 2008, according to a Thomson Reuters report.
St. Thomas cancels all Monday classes as snow piles up
St. Thomas has canceled all day and evening classes for Monday, Feb. 21, according to the university’s snow hotline.
Freshman Anna Fitgerald said she was excited about the snow day.
“I might go play outside tomorrow, maybe go sledding,” she said.

The men’s swimming and diving team finished second in this weekend’s MIAC championships, while the women finished fourth.
Tuition to increase 5.2 percent next year
Doug Hennes, vice president of university relations, said a number of factors contributed to next year’s tuition increase including more financial aid, faculty and staff raises, improvements in technology, building projects and elevator retrofitting.

The St. Thomas men’s tennis team swept St. Cloud State University Sunday with a 9-0 win.
Despite having three players out due to family emergency, injury and sickness, the Tommies shut out the Huskies with good net play and dominant serves.
