The Tommies won the MIAC playoff championships for the eighth consecutive year after beating the Gustavus Gusties 10-2 Saturday afternoon. The Tommies advance to the NCAA tournament for the 14th time in the last 15 years.
Softball wins both games, in pursuit of MIAC title
Senior pitchers Cassie Smith and Biz Sitzmann allowed only one combined run over a two-game span as the top-seeded St. Thomas softball team (38-4) defeated fourth-seed Hamline 7-0 and second-seed Gustavus 3-1 at home Friday afternoon in the MIAC playoffs.

More professors than usual retiring this year
Typically anywhere from two to five professors retire each year, said Joseph Kreitzer, vice president of academic affairs. But this year 21 professors are retiring due to a special retirement option.
Senior Class Gift Committee brings yoga to the quad
The class was similar to a C1 entry-level class at CorePower, designed around a Vinyasa style of yoga. Vinyasa yoga is one of the most commonly practiced styles in the West.

Students raise more than $28,000 for Relay for Life
Forty teams registered for the event, which lasted from 7 p.m. April 30 to 7 a.m. May 1, to raise money for cancer research. About 350 students helped raise $28,520, an increase from last year’s $28,000.

University to offer two new global history courses
One course is called the Middle East and North Africa in global perspective. The other class, East Asian civilizations in global perspective, will be an in-depth look at China, Japan or Korea, depending on when the course is offered.

No Study Monday this fall during finals week
The change will push the original Study Monday to Thursday, Dec. 15, instead. Classes will end Wednesday, Dec. 14, and finals will begin Thursday night and continue Friday. Finals week will finish the following Wednesday, Dec. 21.
