It’s no secret that college students are busy. But even with course loads and internships, students should make more time to volunteer.
Mifflin Street Block Party cracks down, some St. Thomas students still attending
The University of Wisconsin-Madison implemented new rules for Saturday’s Mifflin Street Block Party that discourage out-of-state students from attending. The new rules have been created in hopes of avoiding the out-of-control activity seen at last year’s event.
St. Thomas students and faculty share a helping hand with community
On the last Thursday of every month, a variety of St. Thomas community members come together at Faith Lutheran Church in St. Paul, Minn., to volunteer for Loaves and Fishes, a nonprofit agency. Loaves and Fishes’ mission is to provide nutritious meals to the hungry.
Freshman takes robotics to new heights
Freshman Chris Nagel quickly found his niche at St. Thomas in the lower level of O’Shaughnessy Science Hall. It’s not a typical hangout for students, but in the basement he is able to do what he loves: build robots. Watch the video package here.

Spring is officially here, and Mississippi River Boulevard is bustling with students who venture out to run, bike, rollerblade or relax by the river. However, there may be more than just runners on the boulevard.
Club funding on campus, who gets what
It’s one step to create an official club at St. Thomas. It’s another step to get funding for it. As the number of new and unique clubs continues to grow, the trickier it gets to decide how much funding each new club should receive.

Chamber Singers build community, prepare to premiere commissioned piece
St. Thomas Chamber Singers will perform a piece a Mexican composer Jorge Cozatl wrote for the choir’s March 9 and 10 concert at Orchestra Hall. He has been working with the choir since October on a piece title “Pasar la Vida.” Listen to the song here.
Baseball team splits doubleheader against UW-Lacrosse, Gapinski dominates
Senior pitcher Bryce Gapinski allowed just one run on four hits in seven innings of work to help the Tommies split a doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse Monday night at the Metrodome.
Reconstruction in Murray-Herrick poses temporary inconvenience for students
Construction is underway in the Murray-Herrick Campus Center, forcing some students to make changes to their everyday routines. The renovations are expected to be done in June.

Sophomore goalie Alise Riedel played a crucial role in the women’s hockey team’s climb from ninth to third place in the MIAC. Riedel has recorded five shutouts this season.
