Monmouth, which is located about three hours southwest of Chicago, is a town of around 9,000 and home to the Monmouth College Fighting Scots.

ESPN News announced at 2:13 p.m. that the St. Thomas football team will face Monmouth College in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The game will be played at noon Nov. 21, at Monmouth, Ill.
The back room at Davanni’s on Cleveland Avenue was packed with more than 100 players and fans and a roar of shouts rocked the restaurant when St. Thomas’ name appeared on the screen.
Football throttles Eagles 63-14, awaits likely NCAA at-large bid
With an NCAA playoff appearance on the line, St. Thomas (9-1) had its way with Northwestern College in every aspect of the game on the way to a 63-14 rout Saturday afternoon in O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
On senior day, it was junior running back Ben Wartman who led the Tommie offense that racked up 477 total yards.

Having completed its conference schedule at 7-1 and locked up second place in the MIAC, the football team is set to close out the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday against Northwestern College in O’Shaughnessy Stadium.
Men’s soccer season ends with loss to Carleton
The St. Thomas men’s soccer season came to an end Wednesday in Northfield after losing 3-0 to top seed Carleton College (15-4, 8-2).
St. Thomas (10-7-2, 6-3-1) managed only two shots on goal and surrendered eight to Carleton in the loss.
Macalester defeats women’s soccer 1-0 in MIAC semifinals
The women’s soccer team fell 1-0 to Macalester in MIAC playoff action Tuesday on St. Thomas’ south field.
The loss is St. Thomas’ (13-5-1) second to Macalester (13-4-2) in 10 days, both by 1-0 decisions.
Up ’til Dawn extends registration deadline
Up ‘til Dawn has extended its registration deadline to Nov. 6 as 419 students were signed up by the original Oct. 29 deadline.
Last year, St. Thomas raised $88,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. That total was good enough for fifth out of more than 300 competing schools and as a result Up ’til Dawn awarded St. Thomas the top recruiting award for its efforts.
“We’re a pretty small school,” said senior Annie Donnellan, St. Thomas’ Up ’til Dawn executive director. “We did really well for our size.”
Concordia wins MIAC title, tops women’s soccer 3-2
Senior Erin Spranger’s two-goal effort fell short as St. Thomas lost to Concordia-Moorhead 3-2 on St. Thomas’ south field Tuesday.
St. Thomas saw its bid to defend the conference title end as Concordia-Moorhead, 9-0-1 in the MIAC, officially locked up the championship.
Men’s and women’s crew places first on Mississippi River
The St. Thomas crew team took first place Sunday at the North Star Challenge on the Mississippi River.
The Tommies edged out Michigan Tech, St. John’s and five other schools for the team points trophy.
Loss ruins men’s soccer’s chance at MIAC championship
The men’s soccer team lost a 2-1 overtime decision at Macalester Saturday. Macalester scored in the first period of overtime for the game winner. A goal by St. Thomas junior Elliot Amundson in the 75th minute tied the game at 1-1 and forced the overtime.
Women’s soccer runs MIAC unbeaten streak to 20
The women’s soccer team pushed its conference unbeaten streak to 20 games as the Tommies topped Gustavus 3-1 Wednesday.
Men’s soccer stays alive in MIAC playoff race
The men’s soccer team won 3-2 on the road at St. John’s Wednesday afternoon.
Junior Elliot Amundson got the game-winning goal for St. Thomas in the 84th minute, his second game-winning goal of the season.
No. 10-ranked volleyball beats Carleton
The No. 10-ranked volleyball team beat Carleton 3-1 at Concordia University Wednesday night to stay in a first place tie with St. Olaf on top of the MIAC.
