Augsburg hung around in the first half, but St. Thomas dominated the final 30 minutes to bury the Auggies 55-17 at Palmer Field Saturday.
St. Thomas led 14-10 at halftime, but the Tommies scored 20 points in the third quarter to open up a lead that would only grow from there.
The test for St. Thomas against Augsburg this Saturday at Palmer Field will not be how well the Tommies can play.
It will be how well they can play “hungover.”
St. Thomas heads to St. John’s this weekend in search of its first win in Collegeville since 1986. Putting a finger on what’s kept St. Thomas from victory all these years is difficult, but in searching for a win Saturday, it will help St. Thomas to know its opponent. This begs the question:

The softball team held off elimination Sunday with a 6-1 win over Illinois-Wesleyan at the regional tournament in Indianola, Iowa.
Senior Marta Radcliffe threw a complete game and had two RBIs to lead the Tommies. Sophomore Kayla Boward went three-for-four at the plate, tacking on a run and an RBI.
The women’s softball team took a throttling from Linfield College to the tune of 9-1 Saturday at the regional tournament in Indianola, Iowa.
The men’s lacrosse team may need extra time in baggage check, because it’s returning from the national tournament in Denver with some championship hardware.
The Tommies successfully defended its national championship Saturday by defeating Utah Valley University 12-9.
“Unbelievable. It hasn’t really sank in yet,” junior Joe McCullagh said.
