Is marriage becoming obsolete? 4 in 10 Americans agree

A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that of the 2,691 Americans surveyed, 39 percent thought marriage is becoming obsolete, up from 28 percent when Time magazine asked the same question in 1978.
