Interest sparks intramural kickball tournament

Students gathered for the intramural kickball tournament Saturday at O’Shaughnessy Stadium. The event hasn’t gained enough participation in the past, but this year the interest was evident.

“We came out looking for a good time with a good group of friends here and we wanted to do something new and active,” freshman Mitchell Spanjers said.

Champions were awarded a title t-shirt after successfully managing pool-play. Many students participated for various reasons.

“We did a lot of recruiting over the summer and found a good group of kids,” freshman Kelsey Benton said. “We got a soccer player, rugby player, a few baseball (players) in there.”

The tournament focused on fair play and a competitive atmosphere; the coordinators made that the highest priority.

“We like to get males and females,” junior intramural commissioner Zachary Johnson said. “And the way we figured would work best is co-ed, guys pull in some girls and girls pull in some guys.”

Johnson hopes this will bring will turn to an annual intramural event.
