Editors’ note: The College Democrats and College Republicans participated in a public policy debate Monday in the O’Shaughnessy Educational Center auditorium. The state of Minnesota operates on a two-year budget cycle. The budget includes funding for programs such as education, roads and bridges, technology, healthcare, public safety and housing. Legislators are working to fix the state’s projected $5.1 billion budget deficit. Debaters responded to the question: What needs to be done to balance the state budget?
I’ll take Mr. Hofmeister at his word that he did not have the time to list the items he would cut spending on. But, it would be very interesting to see that list and then have an entire debate on that list.
