The UW-Stevens Point Pointers were firing on all cylinders throughout the second round matchup taking the Tommies down in three sets Friday night at Schoenecker Arena.
The Tommies end their 2018-19 season tonight and will graduate four seniors.
“This team means so much to me, and I’ve learned so much about how to be a leader so we’re not going to let this loss define us,” senior Libero Ellie Meyer said.
The St. Thomas crowd jolted after senior attack Hannha Braun saved the point using her head but the Pointers (28-8) took control to take the first set 25-21.
Senior OH April Gel led the way for the Pointers with 14 kills as they took the second set 25-20 leading all but a few points.
St. Thomas began the set down 7-1 and that energy continued as the Tommies (30-5) lost the third set 25-16.
“In these four senior’s years, they’ve got to have over a hundred wins,” coach Thanh Pham said. “But beyond that, it’s how they did it, and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The Tommies had a successful season finishing with a 30-5 record and captured a MIAC title.
“This season was defined by fun,” senior OH Maddie Kroehler said. “We went out and got the record that we had by loving each other and playing for each other.”
UW-Stevens Point advances to the third round playing Saturday night at 7 p.m. against St. Ben’s.
