The St. Thomas women’s soccer team controlled the game from the start, taking down St. Scholastica 5-1 on Sunday at South Field.

The Tommies (5-1-1 MIAC, 10-2-2 overall) haven’t lost a game in almost a month with three wins in a row.

St. Thomas jumped out to an early lead when midfielder Paige Cater scored off a corner kick three minutes into the game.

The Tommies struck again in the 16th minute off a goal from Kate Heimer assisted by Kaley Roberts.

“This was a game that improved our regional ranking so it was really important to play well today,” Heimer said.“As a team we make it a top priority to have really good unity and connectivity between each other.”

Junior forward Tessa Trettel scored in the 19th minute on an assist from forward Callie Haertle giving the Tommies a 3-0 lead against the Saints (9-7 overall).

Tommie forward Joan Kornkven ended the first half on a high note as she received a cross from Megan Zickert, scoring in the 40th minute of play.

Heimer scored goal number five on a pass from Kristen Epperly in the 53rd minute.

The Saints finally got on the board in the 64th minute with a goal from star midfielder Morgan Fridley.

“We wanted to play two touch soccer with fast movement of the ball,” coach Sheila McGill said. “As well as getting lots of different players experience on the field.”

The Tommies host St. Benedict this Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
