St. Thomas volleyball continues win streak with Stevens Institute of Technology

The St. Thomas volleyball team took three sets against the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks, winning 3-1 in the first game of a double header Friday at Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies (18-3) continue on a seven-game win streak, after taking the first set in a close match 27-25. The team also dominated in the second set, winning 25-18.

The Ducks (9-9) of Hoboken, N.J. took the third set in another close match, beating the Tommies 25-23.

The Tommies closed it off, defeating the Ducks 25-20. Sophomore outside hitter Fran Egan led the team overall with 14 kills in four sets.

“I think we were really balanced today,” Egan said. “In every game, someone different leads in stats so it feels good to lead today.”

The Tommies team leaders included first-year middle blocker Selena Levendoski with 13 kills, senior outside hitter Madie Kroehler with ten kills, first-year right side hitter Kate Achenbach with nine kills and sophomore middle blocker Alexis West with eight kills.

“Our girls played hard,” coach Thanh Pham said. “Stevens is an underrated team, and they’re big and powerful, so for us to come out with the W, we’re pleased.”

Pham hopes to advance the win streak as the Tommies play in the second game of the doubleheader this evening at 7 p.m. against the Northwestern Eagles.

“We just got to control what we can on our side of the net,” Pham said.
