For the entire month of September, St. Thomas sophomore Wyatt Amdahl is walking shoeless to raise money and awareness for Soles4Souls.

Soles4Souls’ mission is to provide shoes for people all over the world who do not have the means or access to buy shoes.

Amdahl surpassed his $1000 goal Wednesday.

Acting director of national intelligence Joseph Maguire began his testimony before the House Intelligence Committee Thursday after the release of a whistleblower complaint against President Donald Trump.

The complaint alleges that Trump abused the power of his office to “solicit interference from a foreign country” in next year’s U.S. election.

The Associated Press reports the document, with its precise detail and clear narrative, will likely accelerate the impeachment process and put more pressure on Trump to rebut its core contentions and on his fellow Republicans to defend him.

The House and Senate intelligence committees have also invited the whistleblower to testify, but it is uncertain whether the person will appear and whether his or her identity could be adequately protected without Maguire’s blessing.

A homeless man in Duluth pleaded guilty Tuesday to starting a fire that destroyed the 117-year-old Adas Israel Synagogue on Sept. 9.

Matthew Amiot, 36, told police he tried to spit on it to put it out, but walked away when that didn’t work.

Sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 25. The Star Tribune of Minneapolis reported that prosecutors are recommending probation. As a condition of his release from jail, he was ordered to remain at a homeless shelter until his next hearing.
