Sports in :60 – Sept. 9, 2019


On Saturday, September 7, Tommie Football opened their season with a resounding victory. The team defeated Trinity-Illinois at O’Shaughnessy Stadium, with a final score of 69-3. Quarterback Tommy Dolan connected with tight end, Grant Slavik for three touchdowns in the first quarter. By halftime, the Tommie had a 49-0 lead.

Women’s soccer won 1-0 against Fontbonne on Sunday, September 8. Freshman Callie Haertle scored the single goal for the Tommies in the second half. Junior Kate Heimer had three shots on goal but none found the back of the net. Women’s soccer is currently 3-0 in the MIAC standings.

On Sunday, September 9, men’s soccer tied Wartburg 1-1. Junior captain Halvour Houg scored the goal for the Tommies in the second half with five minutes remaining. After lacking possession in the first half, the Tommies changed their formation, leading to their goal. The team travels to Southern California to face Claremont Mudd-Scripps College.
